Location: Saona Island is located in the southeast of the Dominican Republic, within the Cotubanamá National Park.
What to do: This Caribbean paradise is known for its white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and palm trees. Excursions to Saona Island usually include transportation by catamaran or speedboat, with stops for swimming and snorkelling in turquoise waters teeming with marine life. In addition, a buffet lunch can be enjoyed on the beach, which usually includes fresh fish, chicken, salads and tropical fruits. Visitors also have the opportunity to explore the small village of Mano Juan, where they can see turtles and learn about local life.
Location: The Samaná peninsula is located in the northeast of the country. Cayo Levantado, also known as Bacardi Island, is just a few kilometres off the coast of Samana.
What to do: A day trip to Samaná and Cayo Levantado is ideal for nature and adventure lovers. In Samaná, you can visit the Limón waterfalls, which can be reached by a hike on horseback or on foot, followed by a refreshing swim in the natural pool. A short boat trip then takes visitors to Cayo Levantado, where they can relax on the white sandy beaches, snorkel and enjoy lunch on the island. During the season from January to March, you can also watch the spectacle of humpback whales in Samana Bay.
Location: Ojos Indígenas Ecological Park is located in Punta Cana, within the Punta Cana Ecological Reserve.
What to do: This ecological park is perfect for a day trip. It offers a series of trails leading to 12 freshwater lagoons, 5 of which are open for swimming. Visitors can enjoy a hike through the rainforest, observe the local flora and fauna and swim in the crystal clear lagoons. In addition, the park offers educational activities about the conservation and biodiversity of the area.
Location: The Colonial Zone is located in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic.
What to do: The Colonial Zone is a trip back in time and an ideal place for history and culture buffs. Visitors can explore cobblestone streets lined with historic buildings, such as the Catedral Primada de América, the Alcázar de Colón and the Monastery of San Francisco. In addition, Plaza de España and Calle El Conde offer a wide variety of restaurants, cafés and craft shops. Guided tours often include visits to museums, monuments and stops at local restaurants to sample Dominican cuisine.
Location: Altos de Chavón is located in La Romana, on the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic.
What to do: Altos de Chavón is a replica of a 16th century Mediterranean village, situated on a cliff overlooking the Chavón River. Visitors can stroll through its cobblestone streets, explore craft shops, art galleries and the amphitheatre, which has hosted numerous international artists. Excursions often include a boat trip on the Chavón River, known for its breathtaking scenery, which has been used as a backdrop for films such as ‘Apocalypse Now’. Activities such as kayaking and snorkelling in the river are also available.
Location: Playa Rincón is located on the Samaná peninsula in the northeast of the country.
What to do: Considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Playa Rincón offers a pristine and almost untouched environment. Excursions to this beach often include transportation from nearby points such as Las Galeras or Santa Bárbara de Samaná. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing day at the beach, swim in the crystal clear waters, and sample fresh fish and seafood at local restaurants. The beach is also ideal for snorkelling and exploring the nearby coral reefs.

What to do: Hoyo Azul is a stunning freshwater cenote located in the Scape Park, an adventure park in Cap Cana. Excursions to Hoyo Azul include a nature trail that leads to a platform from where visitors can jump into the turquoise water of the cenote. In addition, Scape Park offers additional activities such as zip-lining, horseback riding and cave exploration. The park is ideal for adventure lovers and those looking for a thrilling experience in the middle of nature.
