Punta Espada named top Caribbean golf course for 12th time
Once again, the acclaimed Punta Espada Golf Course, in the Dominican Republic has been named the best course in the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and the Atlantic Islands.
Punta Espada Golf Course, in Punta Cana, is no stranger to the award from Golfweek Magazine. In fact, it has been voted the top course in the region no less than 12 times.
The Jack Nicklaus-designed course at Cap Cana is only10-minutes or so from the new Harbor Bay resort, which has just been launched by top developer, Noval Properties, which is ideal for golf-lovers. Harbor Bay consists of 186 luxury one to three-bedroom apartments in a sophisticated style that features the finest finishes.
It boasts a glorious ocean view, a giant 1,421 square meter pool, infinity Jacuzzi, gym and rooftop lounge. Other popular Punta Cana golf clubs to consider are La Cana and Les Corales, which both overlook the sea.
Barbara Warren, Director of Business Development for Noval Properties, says, “Harbor Bay is a luxurious oasis of modernity that provides the best of both worlds: the unrivaled charm of a small coastal community and the grandeur of one of the most sought-after destinations in the world. It is a paradise for golf lovers who seek the ultimate living experience.”
The award is focused on the quality and beauty of each golf course and is marked out of 10 for criteria including its location, designer and how long it has been in operation.
Jorge Subero Medina, executive president of Cap Cana, is proud that Punta Espada is one of the destination's flagships and is a favorite for golf tourism.
He says that 2022 marks Cap Cana's 20th anniversary and that this ranking is one of the best news received as of yet. “It bears witness to years of work and effort to build a space where people can have a unique, exclusive, and different lifestyle.”
Punta Espada, which was first opened in 2006 has also been ranked for 11 years running as one of the top 50 PGA Tour Golf Courses. In 2008, 2009 and 2010, Punta Espada hosted the first event of the PGA Tour "Cap Cana Championship"; a milestone in golf history in the Dominican Republic.
In 2019, it was placed 21st in the 50 Most Beautiful Courses to Play in the World by Golf Advisor and a year earlier 63rd in the 100 Best Golf Digest Courses in the World.
Punta Espada Golf Course has also been voted among the Top 100 best golf courses outside the United States and one of the 10 best golf courses in the Caribbean.
