Punta Cana Among Top Global Travel Hubs in 2021

It has been revealed that more travelers than ever are seeking vacations in Punta Cana in 2021.

Punta Cana is among the five most sought-after vacation destinations worldwide for 2021, according to leading tourism publication, Condé Nast Traveler.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, it is unsurprising that this year's travelers prioritize "seclusion, sun, and sea", and Punta Cana offers all of these!

The data comes from the 2021 Travel Trends Report by the leading travel website, Expedia. It follows a separate report showing that the Dominican Republic leads in the Caribbean and Central America sector, attracting one in six (17%) of all visitors during 2019.

Magaly Toribio, marketing advisor of the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Tourism, states: "The Dominican Republic continues to implement some of the strictest safety precautions in the Caribbean during the COVID-19 pandemic. Travelers seeking a secure getaway will find it on the shores of Punta Cana and throughout the rest of the country".

Since the summer of 2020, when the Dominican Republic reopened its airports, the country has attracted over a million tourists. As COVID restrictions begin to ease in 2021, the DR aims to capitalize on the increased online interest from vacationers.

American Airlines has just reaffirmed its commitment to the Dominican Republic by announcing more flights starting in April. In January, the new Bulgarian airline, GullivAir, flew to Punta Cana for the first time with weekly flights.

Punta Cana is the country's number one tourist destination thanks to nearly 30 miles of coastline, first-class entertainment and attractions, and championship golf courses. It is also highly accessible, courtesy of its international airport. In a typical year, nearly 8 million passengers pass through Punta Cana International Airport, accounting for two-thirds of all tourists to the Dominican Republic.
