Six Must-See Attractions in Punta Cana
Many tourists and property buyers flock to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic for its stunning beaches and world-class golf courses.
However, the popular eastern coastal resort also boasts numerous other essential attractions for residents and visitors to enjoy in and around Punta Cana, the country's primary resort center.
Barbara Warren, of Noval Properties, selects six of the best and remarks: “There is so much to do in the Punta Cana area that we had a hard time limiting our list to just six! While vacationing in the city and enjoying these attractions, why not visit our model homes and witness the outstanding quality of our residences and community?
“After all, many of our homebuyers are tourists who love Punta Cana so much that they decide to find a holiday property or move here permanently.”
The six top must-see attractions in Punta Cana are:
1. Bávaro Beach
Punta Cana is home to many beautiful beaches, and Bávaro Beach, just north of the city, ranks among the best. It features white sands and turquoise waters, includes a designated swimming area alongside natural reefs, and is also popular among boaters and water sports enthusiasts. Stroll along the soft sandy shore or simply cover yourself in sunscreen and soak up the sun. While here, don't forget to pose for a photo to impress family and friends: Bávaro Beach has been named among the top five beaches worldwide for Instagram snapshots.
2. Scape Park and Hoyo Azul Sinkhole
Embark on a wild adventure at Scape Park, with its incredible limestone cliffs and jungle flora. Discover the hidden Hoyo Azul, a mesmerizing blue hole sinkhole, explore ancient caverns and caves, and experience the thrilling Eco Splash Zip Line. You can also learn about regional culture and see replicas of indigenous houses, or simply unwind at the beach club.
3. Choco Museum
Sweet! What could be better than learning all about chocolate at the Choco Museum, and sampling it too? Trace the cacao harvesting process, uncover the history of chocolate making, and most importantly, discover how it’s crafted from bean to bar in an engaging workshop.
4. Flintstones Buggy Adventure
Enjoy a yabba-dabba-do time at the Flintstones Buggy Adventure. The ecological buggy trail stretches for 10 km through countryside and caves, reaching Bedrock City, where you can see Fred Flintstone's house and other scenes inspired by the beloved cartoons and movies.
5. Saona Island
To escape the crowds, venture to the sensational Saona Island, a stunning nature reserve at the southeastern tip of the Dominican Republic. The tropical island spans 15 miles in length by three miles in width and belongs to the Eastern National Park, making it well worth a full-day excursion. It's a 90-minute drive from Punta Cana, followed by a boat journey. In Saona sanctuary, you can encounter vibrant birds, exotic starfish, and rare turtles amidst mangroves and coral reefs. Here, you'll find several beautiful beaches, ensuring that although Saona is one of the most popular excursions in the DR, there are ample opportunities to relax and revel in the breathtaking natural beauty.
6. Montaña Redonda
Ascend to great heights and visit Montaña Redonda. The small mountain stands about 1,000 feet tall and is approximately 90 minutes from Punta Cana, near the town of Miches, yet offers stunning panoramic views of the coastline and the entire region. If you're feeling daring, swing on one of the giant swings at the mountain top, which gives you the sensation of flying and provides the chance for incredible photographs. If you truly want to make a lasting impression, try one of the hammocks or 'flying brooms' on the edge of Montaña Redonda. There's a minimal entrance fee, and you can drive to the peak if the climb is too challenging.
