For many tourists, the best time to travel to the Dominican Republic is during the summer months. From late April to late September (the summer is very long in the Dominican Republic), the minimum temperatures are 21 ºC.

Unlike other tourist destinations, areas like Punta Cana do not suffer from exceptionally high temperatures; in fact, the maximums usually do not exceed 31 ºC, therefore, in summer there is not a very pronounced thermal amplitude, as the temperatures remain between 21 ºC and 31 ºC during this time of year.

If during the summer holidays you are looking for a destination where you do not have to expose yourself to very high temperatures and that also guarantees pleasant minimums throughout the day, the Dominican Republic is the perfect destination.

The rainy season in the Dominican Republic occurs during the summer; however, unlike other destinations, these rains are not very heavy and usually do not exceed 10 days a month. 

Regarding the hours of sunshine, the Dominican Republic has very stable daylight hours throughout the year. In summer, dawn is around 7 a.m., while the last moments of natural light occur around 6 p.m. The average of 11 hours of daylight remains stable during all seasons of the year.

Regarding the maximums, in the coldest months, January and February, they can reach 28 ºC, with minimums of 19 ºC (31 ºC and 21 ºC in summer).

The particular climate of cities like Punta Cana will generate humidity rates that are generally high, remaining around 70% in the cold months and increasing these percentages during the summer months. 

What clothes to take to Punta Cana

The clothing for traveling to Punta Cana is similar at any time of the year. Don’t forget your swimsuits to enjoy some of the best beaches in the world, even in winter.

Regarding the rest of the clothing, you won’t need heavy coats; opt for light clothing for day-to-day including light raincoats, keeping in mind that they will protect you from the rain but should not make you feel hot.

Some places require a dress code for men, making long pants mandatory, so it is advisable to have several garments of this type, especially if you attend events during the late hours of the day.

During winter, the climate remains generally warm. Some Caribbean destinations experience hurricane seasons between June and November; the Dominican Republic does not have these types of meteorological phenomena due to its location.
